A Letter From Rep. Elizabeth Weight

Dear Superintendents and Principals,

Thank you for all you do to inspire and educate the next generation of Utahns. I’m excited to remind you about the unique opportunity we all have to design a new flag for the state of Utah. Please encourage your teachers to submit ideas in the More Than A Flag campaign before April 30, 2022.

I have had the honor of teaching our young people – from special needs to our brightest learners, from elementary through high school.

I believe that by introducing More Than A Flag in the classroom, we can encourage our students to think critically and meaningfully about who we are as people and the values we share as a community.

More Than A Flag can be applied in social studies, art, science, and language arts lessons. Discussion guides, worksheets, and a brainstorming lesson provided by the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program are all available at Flag.Utah.gov/students.

I challenge you to consider, what would we learn if voices from all of Utah’s 1,113 public and charter schools shared their ideas? I truly hope you will commit your school to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity before it is too late Thank you again for making a difference in our classrooms and our state.

Yours,
